Steamboat Springs High School Sailors

— Saturday in Grand Junction, the Steamboat Springs High School girls’ lacrosse team made easy work of Telluride, winning 18-4.

The Sailors controlled the game from the start, racing out to a 12-1 halftime lead. SSHS also played the entire game a man down due to injury, illness or other school obligations.

Telluride (0-3) is only in its second season playing varsity, and SSHS coach Betsy Frick said it was a good opportunity for her players to work on more advanced plays with less pressure on the ball.

Freshman Lucy Shimek once again led the Sailors, scoring seven goals, with five more coming from senior Becky Brown.

Steamboat, now 3-3 overall, is off until Thursday when it plays at Battle Mountain. The Sailors host Fruita Monument the following Saturday.
