Area track teams compete in Eagle Valley

— Gypsum was the place to be Saturday, as all three Routt County High School track and field teams competed in the Eagle Valley Invitational, hosted by Eagle Valley High School.

Teams came from all across the Western Slope, including Rifle, Glenwood Springs, Aspen, Battle Mountain and Summit.

Sailor girls strong in mile



Steamboat senior Alex Tumminello and freshman Winter Boese finished second and third, respectively, in the girls 1,600-meter run. Tumminello had a time of 5 minutes, 54.79 seconds, about 10 seconds behind Summit freshman Noelle Resignolo. Boese was four seconds behind Tumminello.

Freshman Isabelle Boniface continued the Sailors’ strong performances in the distance races by taking fifth in the girls 3,200-meter race in 13:12.62. Freshman Kandice Kittinger was 10th in the same race.



Senior Temsup Techarukpong took 12th in the 400-meter dash in 1:11.00.

The Steamboat boys were led by a fifth-place finish from Ricky Brown in the 200-meter dash (22.25 seconds). Senior Peter Myller was ninth in the 1,600-meter run (5:07.59) and sophomore Kyle Spognardi was 10th in the 800-meter run (2:15.86), with Myller taking 11th in the same race.

The boys relay teams were led by a fourth-place finish from the 800-meter relay team in 1:37.44.

Mitchell Klouw was 10th in the boys high jump, Cruz Archuleta was 11th in the boys 400-meter dash, Elijah Vargas 11th in the boys 3,200-meter run and Ethan Labriola 12th in the boys long jump.

Kelley second for Soroco

Sophomore Ben Kelley remains among the state’s best in the mile, taking second in the boys 1,600-meter race in 4:45.08. He finished four seconds behind Pomona’s Vincent Workman. Also for the Soroco boys, Cody Reynen was seventh in the high jump (5 feet, 6 inches).

The Ram girls were led by a pair of third-place finishes from sophomore Mattie Rossi. She was third in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.54 seconds and third in the 300-meter hurdles in 49.22 seconds.

The Soroco girls 400-meter relay team was third in 53.22 seconds, while senior Kali Constine was ninth in the girls pole vault (7-03), Morgan George ninth in the girls 100-meter dash and Haleigh Dudley 13th in the discus throw.

Hayden solid in field events

The field events continue to be a strength for the Hayden Tigers. Allison Ingols led the way by taking fifth in the girls triple jump (30-7.25). Faith Day was seventh in the girls high jump (4-5.00), Jessica Hockett ninth in the girls discus throw (82 feet) and Shelby Archuleta 10th in the shot put (26-0.50).

Kyra Bennett was 12th in the long jump, while Hockett was also 13th in the triple jump.

The Hayden girls 800-meter medley sprint took third and the 800-meter relay team fifth.

The Hayden boys received a 10th-place finish from Tyler Hockaday in the triple jump. Christian Carson was 11th in the discus throw and 13th in the shot put.
