Howelsen trail race awaits Saturday

Michelle Barnes competes in the Steamboat Springs Running Series Howelsen Hill 8-Miler. The event returns on Saturday.

The Steamboat Springs Running Series is back Saturday with its first true trail run of the summer.

The Howelsen Hill Trail Run begins at 8 a.m. from Olympian Hall at the base of Howelsen Hill. It will feature a longer course — eight miles mostly on singletrack on Howelsen Hill and Emerald Mountain — and a shorter course of four miles.

Registration is available online at http://www.RunningSeries.com. The eight-mile race costs $30 and the four-mile version $25. A "no-frills" option is also available, omitting the race T-shirt, for $20 and $15.

The race is the fourth of the summer for the Running Series and the last trail run until a July 8 jaunt up Hahn's Peak.
