Championships of city tennis tournament set for Sunday

— An all-family affair will highlight the final day of the 2015 Steamboat Springs City Singles and Doubles Championships on Sunday at the Tennis Center of Steamboat Springs.

The three-day tennis tournament began Friday and continued throughout the day Saturday, with the championship matches taking place Sunday morning.

In the men's 4.5 doubles bracket, the 9:30 a.m. championship match will feature the team of Jack and Teague Burger going up against Keegan and C.J. Burger. C.J. is the father of the other three. Jack and Keegan, both 2011 Steamboat Springs High School graduates, are twins. Jack coached the Sailors boys’ tennis team this fall.

Teague, who was the No. 1 singles player for the Sailors’ tennis team this fall as a freshman, will also play for the men's 4.5 singles championship against New Mexico's Joseph O'Dell.

In the women's 3.5 singles bracket, the 11 a.m. final match will feature Teresa Long against Noelle Cerone, both of Steamboat. The 8:30 a.m. women's 4.5 doubles final will match Loretta Conway and Anya Cooper against Meg Tully and Rebecca Lamb, all Routt County residents.

The remainder of the men's singles bracket will be Wyatt Stempel against John Hannaway in the 3.5 flight and Richard Witty against Jim Webster in the 4.0 flight. The 4.0 men's doubles championship will be Karl Bunker and Erik Griepentrog going against Donald Murphy and John Holland.

The women's 4.0 doubles final is Michelle Campbell and Natasha Vissering Hutter, both of Denver, against the Steamboat duo of Julie Kennedy and Marci Valicenti.

The women's 3.0 and 3.5 doubles brackets were both played in round robin fashion. Steamboat's Wendi Appel and Annette Lynch went 3-0 to earn the 3.0 title. The final round of the 3.5 round robin will begin at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
