Yampa Valley Medical Center listed in top-100 community hospitals

Yampa Valley Medical Center

Yampa Valley Medical Center has been recognized as one of the great community hospitals for 2017, according to a list recently released by Becker's Hospital Review.

Laura Dyrda, editor-in-chief of Becker's ASC Review, Spine Review and Becker's Healthcare, said hospitals selected for this honor have exhibited quality care, patient experience, operations and reputations based on other rankings and ratings, including Truven Health Analytics, CMS 5-Star rating, Healthgrades, IVantage, U.S. News & World Report and others.

“We release this particular list on an annual basis,” Dyrda said. “We seek to highlight the accomplishments of hospitals across the country in various categories.”

YVMC was listed in the top-100 community hospitals for the year.

"We also considered qualitative aspects of the hospitals, including recent growth and development, reputation for innovation and community impact," Dyrda said. “All of the hospitals on the list were vetted by Becker's editorial team and deemed worthy to feature."

Becker's website said the list includes independent community hospitals, as well as facilities affiliated with large health systems. Some hospitals serve expansive rural geographies, while others care for small communities outside of large metropolitan cities. Many of these hospitals have been recognized for their clinical quality, operational excellence and economic impact on the surrounding area.

For the purposes of this list, Becker’s defines a community hospital as a facility with no more than 550 beds.

Dyrda said Becker’s Hospital Review is a healthcare industry publication with a general-content target audience of hospital executives and healthcare professionals. While several tools used to determine the quantitative aspects of this list are designed to help patients select the appropriate hospital for care, this particular list is not developed or marketed as a tool for patients. Instead, it seeks to highlight what key hospitals are doing around the country.

Becker’s is an online and print publication that produces 12 print issues per year. Becker’s Healthcare has been releasing lists for more than five years.

Yampa Valley Medical Center was also named one of the top 100 hospitals in the country by Truven Analytics in March. Truven is an academically driven study that evaluates clinical and operational performance in 11 areas. The study has been conducted annually since 1993.

Lindsey Reznicek, outreach specialist for Yampa Valley Medical Center, said YVMC was thrilled receive both recognitions, adding that the awards exemplify the quality and care YVMC brings to our mountain community.

"This is a small community, but these awards really speak to the level and quality of care that our staff, volunteers and physicians  provide for patients," she said.
