Wranglers sweep weekend series

The Steamboat Wranglers, a junior hockey team based in Steamboat Springs, unveiled their team name and logo this summer, and now, they're preparing for the season, which starts with training camps later this month. The squad is still looking for billet families for some of its players.

The Steamboat Wranglers junior hockey team made it four in a row this weekend.

The squad beat the Colorado Rampage playing at Monument Ice Rink, first on Friday 5-3, then on Saturday 8-3.

The victories extend the Wranglers' win streak to four games and improve the team's record to 4-2.

Steamboat opened the weekend by rallying from a 2-0 first-period deficit. Ethaen Barriga got Steamboat's scoring started midway through the second period, however, and Jack McNamara tied things up moments later. Donny Nordstrom then put the Wranglers on top for good with the team's third goal of the second period.

McNamara added his second goal of the night in the third period, while James Shelton also scored.

A day later, Steamboat scored four goals in the first period, then three more in the second to establish a commanding lead. Jack Rousseau and Cameron Knowlton each had two goals, while Barriga, Alan Rickli, Kameron Fink and Lyle Wilkens each scored one.
