Wish You Were Here, Steamboat 360: Soda Pop Slalom sweetens Winter Carnival events
February 10, 2017
Steamboat Springs — Every year hundreds of young ski racers line up at the top of the Headwall ski run at the base of Steamboat Ski Area hoping to make their way through the race gates en route to a bag filled with treats as part of the annual Christy Sports Soda Pop Slalom.
This year’s race went off without a hitch as volunteers dressed in costumes helped the field of young skiers at the starting line, and parents and other spectators cheered as young racers skied down the hill.
The times really don't matter in this race; every participant is rewarded with a goodie-bag at the bottom of the hill that is handed out by this Winter Carnival royalty. The fun-filled event is the perfect way to kick off the Winter Carnival weekend, which will shift into high gear Saturday with the Street Events on Lincoln Avenue and ski jumping and the Night Extravaganza at Howelsen Hill.
