We’re Not Clowns are back with variety show series at the Chief

Kelly Anzalone, Scott Parker and Andy Pratt — the trio who are in fact, We’re Not Clowns – are back for a series of monthly shows at the Chief Theater this winter.

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS – They're more than jugglers, jokesters, tricksters in disguise.

They go by the name, We're Not Clowns, and they specialize in zany antics and comedic relief.

The trio, starring Scott Parker, Andy Pratt and Kelly Anzalone, will perform a series of monthly shows at the Chief Theater this winter, beginning with their first show at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Parker said “the real kick in the pants” to start the monthly variety show came after their last performance during the Steamboat is Magic Festival.

"All of the shows were packed with families, and a lot of people came up to me after and pleaded with me for more family fun programming at the Chief," said Parker, who also serves as the Chief’s executive director.

The show this weekend will feature a song by Anzalone accompanied by Andy "Moose on the Loose," as well as the appearance of a new character, "Chefy."

"Our shows have a ton of improvisation in them, so you pretty much never know what you are going to get," Parker said.

Dusting off a few of their classic routines, the non-clowns will also have a few surprises with audience participation and special guests each month.

In addition to their juggling antics and sidesplitting routines, the three are involved with other theatrical endeavors and have been for over 20 years — from writing skits and directing anything from Cabaret to Ski Town Productions and Pirate Theater.

“Our shows are not very far away from our actual lives,” Anzalone said. “It's more natural and a lot easier to find the comedy in our daily lives. There’s a lot of it.”

“At one of our shows, you wouldn’t just watch a juggling show,” Parker added. “It was a theatrical production with characters like Professor Pratt, who ran the physics of juggling department with his interns.”

We're Not Clowns performs locally, nationally and internationally. In 2000, the troupe won the silver medal at the International Jugglers Association competition in Montreal, Canada.

Just last week, the troupe performed in Vail and Beaver Creek with an emphasis on fire juggling – outdoor performances, of course.

“Trust me; just come and see the show," Parker said. "It's like nothing you've ever seen — equal parts juggling, music and improvisational hilarity. If you don’t love the show, Andy Pratt will personally refund your money from his own pocket.”

The show, which is geared to all ages, features juggling, magic, comedy, music and audience participation.
