Vail Kovatch: Trust women’s health care service providers

The recent attacks and threats on Planned Parenthood funding from the Trump administration aren’t new, especially here in Colorado.

In fact, Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains hasn’t received Title X Family Planning Program funding for decades because past state officials put up barriers. Planned Parenthood offers vital health care services for women in all kinds of communities, most especially low-income women who need Medicaid to be accepted by a provider.

One can’t help but wonder what the motives are for our elected officials to support these cuts to Title X. Our own Congressman, Scott Tipton, has voted to defund Planned Parenthood and voted 56 times to get rid of our health care system.

The Western Slope disproportionately relies on Medicaid to provide affordable medical care, and cutting funding to one of the few places that accepts Medicaid would put women at risk. Stand with the patients here in Routt County and denounce these attempts to take away affordable health care.
