After two months of mud season, the moment we have all been waiting for is finally here. No more sleet, no more snow and no more slush.

Now it's time for sweet lemonade stands, the smell of freshly cut grass and sunny summer days. June, July, and August are meant to be spent outside enjoying the sunshine. However, we are all very aware that Steamboat summers don't last long enough. Pretty soon, crisp leaves will be falling, and then it will be snowing champagne powder once again.

So, why waste the hot summer months home alone? We need to be out enjoying the warm weather and hanging with friends while we can. If you're in middle school, you might be wondering about the best place to go this summer. We have the answer — The Attic at The Boys and Girls Club of Steamboat Springs.

At the BGC, located on Eighth Street between Pine and Aspen, the Attic is the perfect place to enjoy summertime. Geared specifically towards sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders, the Attic is the hot spot to be.

Our pre-teen programs are designed to get middle schoolers outside, active and, most importantly, having fun. Not only that, the Attic has something for everyone.

Do you like swimming? We will be doing weekly trips to Old Town Hot Springs and have regular balloon and water gun fights at the club. Are you into sports? We play Mattball, soccer, volleyball and basketball. As far as kickball goes, we'll also be facing off against the Boys and Girls Club of Craig monthly.

Maybe you just want to hang with friends? We have board games, Wii tournaments, music and plenty of places to lounge. The Attic is also a great place to meet new friends with common interests. More on the adventurous side? The club plans to go on gondola rides, hiking, mini golfing and biking this summer. We also will have weekly fun challenges, such as Hunger Games and Geocaching excursions.

The Attic will be open from 9:20 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. We will have fieldtrips, tournaments, relaxation time and fun games and activities planned every day.

Not a member? Sign up. Membership fees are $25 per year, and it is only $1 per hour to come hang out during the summer months.

Here at Boys and Girls Club, we are super excited to kick off the summertime and expand our awesome middle-school program; we want you to join in on all the fun. So don't waste the short summer months. Come hang out and get your fill of swimming, games and hanging out with friends.
