Third Street could open Tuesday, followed by 13th Street later this week

Steamboat Springs — The busy Third Street intersection could open as soon as Tuesday, according to a U.S. Highway 40 construction project update from the Colorado Department of Transportation. But first, downtown motorists will have to deal with traffic delays tonight while Lincoln is closed for road striping.
The project update, sent this morning, indicates that when Third Street re-opens, so will travel in all four lanes of traffic up to Seventh Street. The opening would allow for turns at all intersections from Third to Seventh streets as well as street parking on Lincoln Avenue.
On Monday afternoon, project information manager Jody Patten said the opening of Third Street will depend on the completion of road striping. Crews are shutting down a significant stretch of Lincoln Avenue and diverting traffic onto Oak Street tonight for that striping to take place, Patten said.
The project's hotline, 819-7008, also indicated today that 13th Street could open as early as Wednesday, but is more likely to open Thursday or Friday.
