Tanker crash spills jet fuel, closes U.S. Highway 40 east of Hayden

HAYDEN — A fuel tanker carrying jet fuel crashed as it attempted to turn onto Routt County Road 51A off U.S. Highway 40 about 3:20 p.m Friday. The tanker was flipped onto its side and began leaking jet fuel onto the highway.

U.S. 40 was closed in the vicinity of the crash, and traffic was re-routed via Routt County Road 37.

Colorado State Patrol and the Routt County Sheriff’s Office were among the agencies that responded to the scene.
