Sydney Peak Ranch developer dies at 81

John Boler, the business entrepreneur who acquired Sydney Peak Ranch in 1992, died March 4 at age 81. Until his death, Boler served as chairman of the board of The Boler Company, a company he founded in 1977.

According to Rod Hanna, president and CEO of Sidney Peak Ranch LLC, Boler was committed to preserving the land at Sydney Peak, which is located 7 miles south of Steamboat Springs on Routt County Road 14. Of the ranch's approximately 1,500 acres, only 300 are utilized as home sites, leaving the rest of the land in a conservation easement.

"John Boler was the most generous and honorable man I've ever known. A man of deep religious faith, he followed the maxim — to much is given, much is required," Hanna said. "His and wife, Mary Jo's, philanthropy touched many Routt County organizations — from the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association, Hospice, the Haven in Hayden, Yampa Valley Autism Program, Holy Name Catholic Church and the Steamboat Art Museum."

The Boler family remained involved in the future of Sidney Peak Ranch, according to Hanna.

A funeral mass celebrating Boler's life is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, March 14 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Palatine, Illinois.
