Swimmers come up big in Aspen

— A large contingent of Steamboat Springs Swim Team athletes came back with strong results from a meet earlier this month in Aspen.

Steamboat traveled for the 2016 Ned Mechling Memorial swim meet with 46 swimmers and came away with a fourth-place overall finish. The girls team was second on its own, behind only the host, Aspen.

"The team swam really well at the meet," coach Patti Worsley said. "We had a lot of new swimmers and many veteran swimmers at the meet. It was exciting to see them come together as a team and swim so fast."

Saige Lottes, 12, helped lead the way. She set a meet record in the 11/12 girls 100-meter butterfly. Overall, she won four events, was second in four more and third in two after that, one of which was a relay.

Her 58 points in the meet led the team.

Grace O'Reilly wasn't far behind, scoring 39 and winning two individual races, while chipping in on two relay victories.
