Steamboat Storm down to final out

— The Steamboat Storm, a local college summer league baseball team, lost its first postseason game Monday, falling while playing on the road against Vail, 11-4.

The squad is now awaiting other results to know who its opponent will be in the Mountain West Summer Collegiate Baseball League double-elimination tournament. It will play either the Glenwood Geckos or the Summit Extreme Black Diamonds. Either game would be on the road and take place Wednesday afternoon.

Manager Matt Ellinghusen said the team couldn't come up with its usual offensive production Monday.

"We didn't hit as well as we normally do," he said. "Our pitching got off to a rough start. From the fourth inning on, we didn't really give up anything, but it was too late to come back."

The team will have to win five consecutive games to win the tournament.

"If we lose again, we're done, but winning five games in a row is doable," Ellinghusen said. "It will be tough, but it's definitely doable."
