Steamboat Springs teens Taylen Zabel and Caitlin Smith recognized

Caitlin Smith named Teen of the Month for December

The Steamboat Springs Teen Council has selected Caitlin Smith as Teen of the Month for December because she demonstrates that teens are valuable community assets, acts as a leader and/or a positive role model amongst his/her peers and is committed to community service.
The Steamboat Springs High School junior is active in the community. She is involved in the Model U.N. and the Dance Showcase, and this year she served as one of the choreographers for the showcase. Caitlin is also a member of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club and serves as a counselor at the Boys & Girls Club.
One of Caitlin's greatest high school accomplishments is being selected to National Honor Society.
"This shows I've established being of good character, which is always something I strive to do," Caitlin said. "I have always had a passion for helping out and giving back. I always feels so good after helping out in the community which inspires me to keep doing it."
After high school, Caitlin plans to go to college to study medicine or law and is interested in checking out the East Coast. In 10 years, she hopes to be a pediatrician, surgeon or working in New York City as a human rights lawyer.
Caitlin's role model is her mother.
"She is the strongest and smartest person I know," Caitlin said. "I wouldn't be the person I am today without her guiding me around every twist and turn and teaching me through every obstacle thrown at me. I strive to make her proud, which makes me a better person."
Caitlin enjoys hanging out with her older brother, dog and kitten, Rosie, and she loves to ski, hike and travel.
Steamboat Springs Teen Council is sponsored by the city of Steamboat Springs and Grand Futures Prevention Coalition and funded through a grant from Routt County United Way and Yampa Valley Community Foundation.
