— The High Altitude Basketball team, composed of teams in sixth grade and up, recently competed in a pair of tournaments.

The varsity team went undefeated in a tournament in Laramie, Wyo., and was the crowned champion. The team, playing an uptempo style, also played in Denver against several top Front Range club teams and went 2-2.

“We played some competition there,” coach Devin Borvansky said.

The junior varsity team also won in Laramie but struggled in Denver going 0-3. The eighth-grade team struggled in both tournaments, finishing 1-3 in Laramie and winless in Denver.

The sixth- and seventh-grade team — full of players new to the program and competitive basketball — was winless in Laramie but went 2-2 in Denver.

“The best thing about those practices are every time they walk into the gym they improve,” Borvansky said. “They have no bad habits.”

The team next competes the first week in May at a tournament in Highlands Ranch. There, all the teams should see some top-level competition.

“It’s another good tournament,” Borvansky said. “We should have a full squad. We want to win it. We’re not backing down form any team. We’re looking for competition.”
