Steamboat Pilot & Today wins General Excellence Award in annual CAPER contest

COLORADO SPRINGS — The Steamboat Pilot & Today took home 54 awards from the 2017 Colorado Press Association Better Newspaper Awards and the Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters Contest during the annual CPA Convention, which was held April 12 to 14 in Colorado Springs.

The newspaper was named the top newspaper in its division in the CAPER contest, winning the General Excellence Award, along with nine first-place, six second-place and nine third-place awards.

In the Better Newspaper Awards contest, the Pilot & Today earned top sweepstakes awards for Photo and Design and Advertising as well as 16 first-place and 14 second-place awards.

"I am incredibly proud of each member of the talented Steamboat Pilot & Today team, who work incredibly hard to provide an excellent community newspaper, online and in print," said Editor Lisa Schlichtman.

"Winning the General Excellence Award from the Associated Press is a huge honor, and I think it is testament to the caliber of journalists we have on our news team," Schlichtman added. “They’re among the very best in the state.”
