Steamboat Movement Fest releases 2017 schedule featuring new faces, variety of workshops

The third annual Steamboat Movement Fest, the four-day combustion of yoga, music, dance and movement, will return Aug. 10 to 13 with a newly released schedule of events and workshops.

"We truly believe that movement is medicine, and in Steamboat, movement is not just an activity or a lifestyle – movement is who we are," said Talaya Thomas, executive director/co-founder of Steamboat Movement Fest.

Leading the festival will be 33 distinguished yoga instructors, musicians and fitness specialists from around the country and 16 instructors known here in Steamboat.

New additions to the festival will be the venues and the range of movement that goes beyond yoga featured in workshops and classes.

Some of the new offerings include: a morning road ride led by Michelle Freckleton; Acro yoga and Slackline yoga classes with Allison Gordon and Michelle Griffith; more Pranayama breath work classes; and a variety of panel discussions with featured instructors at the "Vendors Village" in West Lincoln Park, which will be the festival’s base area.

Other weekend activities include kids yoga, storytelling, African dance and drumming and stand-up paddle boarding yoga.

Not only that, there will be more live music performances, which will also be incorporated into the classes.

Musicians and acts coming to town this year include: the opening night's free concert with We Dream Dawn featuring Sage Cook, who founded Elephant Revival; Seth Larson, who will be featured in the Friday Night Live Outlaw Yoga class; Sound Off Colorado; Buddha Bomb; and Beth LoveLight.

Rockford also said the Fest will also include local studios, which was part of the original vision for Steamboat Movement Fest.

"Steamboat is a place where we can celebrate life, connection and community," Thomas said. "To me, that's what yoga is all about at its core, and you will find that in this Fest."
