Steamboat Mountain Music free concert series kicks off Saturday with WinterWonderGrass founder’s band

Steamboat Ski Resort's Mountain Music free concert series kicks off Saturday with a concert by Bonfire Dub.

Starting at 5 p.m., the folk, reggae rock group from the Front Range will take the Steamboat Gondola Stage.

The group, directly affiliated with Bonfire Entertainment and creator Scotty Stoughton, has produced a number of notable music events including Campout for the Cause and WinterWonderGrass, according to Nicole Miller, the Ski Area's digital communications manager.

Since Bonfire Dub's emergence in 2009, the band has welcomed Bridget Law from Elephant Revival, a renowned folk music group on the Western Slope, to its collaborations.

Later this month, on July 21, a premiere roots rock act, the Freddy Jones Band, will return to the Steamboat Stage. A show that Miller said will be one for fans of '90s music. The band is led by founding member, singer and guitarist Marty Lloyd, who is joined by bassist Rich Ross, guitarist Dave Preston and former Matchbox 20 drummer Ryan MacMillan.

Then on Aug. 18, Dead Man Winter, whose frontman Dave Simonett also plays with Trampled by Turtles, will complete the summer series. Other members of the band include drummer JT Bates, guitarist Erik Koskinen, pianist Bryan Nichols and bassist Tim Saxhaug, also of Trampled by Turtles.

“The Steamboat Mountain Music series is a great complement to the Free Summer Concert Series downtown,” Miller said. “We like to sprinkle in shows on the mountain in between the ones at Howelsen to ensure there's always great live music happening in Steamboat.”
