Steamboat lacrosse team loses close ones
April 17, 2006
Steamboat Springs — Consistency has been a consistent problem for the Steamboat Springs High School boys lacrosse team.
The Sailors dropped two games during the weekend, losing both by one goal.
“One bad quarter has been our downfall,” Steamboat coach Bob Hiester said. “Then we have to try and fight out of the hole. It’s usually early — the second quarter. I think we make some decent adjustments at the half, and then we come out and play consistently.”
Green Mountain — a Lake–wood school — defeated Steamboat, 7-6, on Friday. Evergreen defeated Steamboat, 6-5, in overtime Saturday.
“Against Green Mountain, we were up 2-1 at one point,” Hiester said. “Then we fell behind by three and then battled back to one goal.”
Scoring for the Sailors (4-8 overall record) were Jake Flax, Leo Chea, Kevin Bertrand, Justin Howard and Grant Ehrick.

Hiester said the Sailors are trying to schedule another game after spring break, which is from Monday to April 28.
If they are unable to do that, Steamboat’s season will end Thursday. The Sailors won’t make the playoffs.
