Steamboat hockey falls against state champs

Joel Reichenberger

— The Steamboat Springs High School hockey team on Friday night ran into one of the best opponents it will see this season, and the young Sailors squad didn’t hold up.

Ralston Valley, undefeated and the state champs a year ago, beat Steamboat, 7-1, on its home ice.

The Sailors will have a chance to get back on the winning side when it plays Saturday against Denver East. It will be only the third game in the history of the program for the school. The team, the Angels, are off to a strong start, however, and Friday night they beat Kent Denver, 8-1.

Steamboat will be looking for its first win, after losing to Aspen to start the season, and again Friday night.
