Steamboat girls lacrosse drops pair of Front Range games

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — The Steamboat Springs High School girls lacrosse team struggled against a pair of big Front Range teams Thursday and Friday, losing both games.

The Sailors lost to Cherokee Trail, 18-8, then lost at Evergreen, 17-6.

Against Cherokee Trail, Steamboat was at its best early, even taking a lead late in the first half. A lightning strike suspended play, however, and it was Cherokee Trail that came back with more focus, slowing Steamboat and running away with the win.

In that game, Riley Schott had six goals and Lucy Shimek two.

A day later, Evergreen got up 8-3 at half and maintained that pace through the rest of the game.

Schott scored five and Isa DeMorat one.
