Steamboat girls celebrate senior night with big win against Summit County

Steamboat Springs — Steamboat Springs senior Maddie Robertson and her teammates were all smiles as they left the court Tuesday night after a 49-28 victory against Summit County in Steamboat Springs.
But the smiles were about a lot more than the final score.
"These are the nights that high school athletes live for," Robertson said. "Everyone gets excited for us and celebrates the fact that we have been doing this for the past four years."
The night began with the crowd, parents and other fans recognizing the accomplishments of seven players as part of senior night. After the ceremony, the flowers and the gifts, the Sailors got to work.
The home team built a 20-4 lead in the first quarter and rolled to a 27-8 lead at the end of the first half. In the third quarter, the Sailors' lead grew to 40-12, and Steamboat cruised to the win.
"It was a good game," coach Mack Spitellie said. "We played hard in the first quarter just to do what we were supposed to do. It was an awesome performance."

Mikaila Jegtvig led the Sailors with 18 points, Ashley Spitellie added eight and Annie Osbourn scored six.
"We could have executed a little better on offense, but we played great defense, so I'm not going to complain," Mack Spitellie said.
The Sailors will look for more success this week as the team heads into the final stretch of the season with a road game Thursday against Battle Mountain.
The team will return home Saturday for the final regular season game of the year against Eagle Valley.
