Steamboat Chamber releases new way to report weekly lodging occupancy

The Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association has replaced the weekly lodging barometer with the DestiMetrics daily occupancy report.
Based on the new report, occupancy at Steamboat Springs lodging companies is expected to be 97 percent Friday, Jan, 5, 93 percent on Saturday, Jan. 6, 84 percent on Jan. 7 and 81 percent on Jan. 8.
The chamber began working with DestiMetrics, a lodging data firm specializing in resort destinations, in 2016. With data submissions from local lodging companies each month, there is now a full year of comparison data available, which supports the decision to switch to this new report that provides a more complete picture of lodging occupancy in Steamboat Springs.
Historically, the lodging barometer data was distributed to chamber members on a weekly basis as a planning resource for local business owners. The new data, refreshed monthly, is comprised of nightly stays on the books for the next 60 days, rather than the lodging barometer's Wednesday and Saturday-only reporting.
The 60-day view provides a longer outlook than the lodging barometer allowed, which can help with longer-term inventory and staff planning. The data is vetted for accuracy every month by the DestiMetrics team and contains paid hotel and condominium reservations as well as complimentary and owner stays.
The report will include data indicating current on-the-books occupancy as of the report date, on-the-books occupancy for the same time period for the year prior, as well as actual occupancy from the prior year.
The Chamber will receive the report mid-month after it is published by DestiMetrics but will continue to distribute on a weekly basis.
