Steamboat briefs: YVEA reports most outages from snowstorm restored

As of Saturday morning, Yampa Valley Electric Association reported it had resolved most of the issues associated with the power outage that affected some 3,000 YVEA customers Friday during a spring snowstorm.
According to an email from Tammi Strickland, YVEA communications and public relations manager, crews were continuing to work on a very few remaining outages Saturday, but were confident those outages would be quickly resolved.
Strickland encouraged those who discover new outages to report them by calling 970-879-1160.
Hayden Public Library conducts community survey
Hayden Public Library is conducting a community survey it hopes will help the library better serve the public.

All survey respondents will be entered in a drawing for a Kindle Fire.

Beekeeping workshops at CMC set to continue Sunday, April 17
Greg McMahan, of "To Bee or not To Bee," will present a hive-splitting and queen-rearing workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, April 17 in room 216 in the Academic Building at Colorado Mountain College Alpine Campus.

Steamboat Pilot & Today seeks board members
Steamboat Pilot & Today is accepting letters of interest from readers who would like to serve as community representatives on the newspaper's editorial board. Individuals selected for the board will be asked to serve a four-month term beginning in May.
The editorial board includes two community representatives and four members of the newspaper staff.
Newspaper staff members on the board include Publisher Suzanne Schlicht, Editor Lisa Schlichtman, Assistant Editor Jim Patterson and veteran reporter Tom Ross. Current community representatives on the board are Ed MacArthur and Enimie Reumaux.
The editorial board formulates the Our View opinions expressed on the ViewPoints page of the newspaper Wednesdays and Sundays. The editorial board meets at 10:30 a.m. Thursdays for one hour.

Steamboat set to celebrate planet starting Friday
Steamboat Springs residents are invited to pay tribute to the planet and learn more about environmental conservation during Yampa Valley Sustainability Council's month-long Every Day is Earth Day celebration.
The festivities kick-off on Earth Day, Friday, April 22, with a reusable shopping bag giveaway, followed by a water forum, a used clothing fashion show, electronics recycling collection and a wide range of other environmental events offered by YVSC and other community partners.
YVSC invites community members to attend one of the many sustainability-focused events this month and celebrate Earth Day every day of the year.
