Steamboat briefs: School district hosts master planning, facilities meeting

The Steamboat Springs School District is hosting a school facilities and master planning meeting at 6 p.m. today at the Steamboat Springs High School cafeteria, 45 Maple St. The district currently is engaged in a comprehensive evaluation of educational goals, facility needs and vision for the school's future and is seeking community input. The public is invited to attend the hour-long meeting and learn more about the district's future plans and offer input.
Registration for the Winter Carnival to begin on Friday
Registration for the 102nd annual Winter Carnival street events begins at 10 a.m. Friday, at http://www.steamboatchamber.com/streeteventregistration. Online pre-registration for horse events is required and will fill quickly. Registration for non-horse street events will be on the day of the event. Be sure to read through the registration tutorial and waivers available on the website in advance. Street events take place on Lincoln Avenue the mornings of Feb. 7 and 8. Sorel Sioree tickets available online or by calling club
There are a limited amount of tickets available for the Sorel Soiree, which this year will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Howelsen Hill. The party will be held at the base of Howelsen Hill in a huge tent on Vanatta Field.
Marno's Custom Catering will be providing the food, and there will be wine, beer and shots of Schnapps and Fireball from ice-sculpted shot luges. "Missed The Boat" will be playing live, and those who attend usually wear old-fashioned or new formal attire with their Sorel boots.
Cocktails and food will be served beginning at 7 p.m. and the band will start playing at 9 p.m. Tickets are $90 per person and include all drinks, food, dancing and fun. Event proceeds benefit the Winter Sports Club.

National Honor Society to host Parents Night Out
The Steamboat Springs High School Chapter of the National Honor Society will host a Parents Night Out from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30 at the high school. Parents can drop off their kindergarten to fifth grade children for a night of kid-friendly activities, including games, crafts, snacks and a movie. The cost is $10 per child and parents should RSVP at firstname.lastname@example.org. Event proceeds will benefit the club.
