Steamboat briefs: Pet adoption event to take place Saturday, Aug. 1, Sunday, Aug. 2

Coldwell Banker Distinctive Properties is teaming up with the Routt County Humane Society to participate in the first-ever Homes for Dogs National Pet Adoption Weekend from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1 and Sunday, Aug. 2 at the animal shelter in Steamboat Springs. This local event, which will include food, and "Ask a Vet: tent and plenty of adoptable dogs and cats, is part of the "Homes for Dogs Project," a national campaign hosted by adopt-a-pet.com and Coldwell Banker Real Estate LLC.

"Dogs have and always will be such an integral part of our homes," said Karen Beauvais, a broker affiliated with Coldwell Banker Distinctive Properties in Steamboat Springs. "From the moment they greet us at the front door, they are our constant companions. We are proud to be a part of this outstanding campaign."

"We couldn't be more excited to take part in this national movement to find homes for dogs," said Maggie Smith, co-president of the Routt County Humane Society. "We know this nationwide event will help draw attention to the thousands of adoptable pets in need of homes and truly make an impact on the Steamboat Springs community."

Coldwell Banker Distinctive Properties is also heading a donation drive for the Routt County Humane Society. Those who are unable to adopt currently can still make a donation to support the shelter by calling Amanda Quinones, office manager at Coldwell Banker Distinctive Properties, at 970-879-8814 or Smith at 970-879-7247.

Local companies that have already joined the cause include Paws 'N Claws, Mountain Peaks Veterinary Clinic, Powder Hounds Grooming Salon, Pet Kare Clinic, Elk River Pet & Ranch and Red Rover Resort Personalized Dog Boarding.

Work to take place on US Highway 40, Elk River Road

YEH & Associates, Inc. will be conducting soil test boring work at the intersection of U.S. Highway 40 and Elk River Road on Tuesday and Wednesday. These tests are associated with the Colorado Department of Transportation and city of Steamboat Springs' collaboration to design intersection improvements at that location.

The test boring will require the contractor to deploy traffic control, such as lane closures, at and near the intersection.

Delays should be expected, so the public is asked to plan accordingly. Access to all area businesses will be maintained throughout the duration of the job. Motorists are reminded to obey the traffic control and associated signage and to slow down through the work zone.
