Evening of free gardening advice slated at library Wednesday

Bud Werner Memorial Library and the Routt County CSU Master Gardeners present "Gardening 101/201: An Evening with the Master Gardeners," from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Library Hall. With the onset of gardening season in the Yampa Vallley, this is a night of expert gardening advice to help gardeners plan and maximize their summer gardens.

Learn about the best use of the short growing season, whether your garden space is small or large, during 2.5 hours of hands-on demonstrations. During this open house gardening event, the community is invited to get their hands in the dirt and talk one-on-one with local gardening experts.

Demonstrations will include an introduction to gardening in Routt County, common pests and weeds, seed selection, transplanting, soil information, container gardens, season extension, water-wise gardening and more. Routt County CSU Extension's soil sample kits will be available for purchase on site as well. This is a free event and no registration required.

YVSC seeks business sponsors for sustainable events

Large public events often generate significant waste. Since 2010, Yampa Valley Sustainability Council has been reducing the environmental footprint of local community events by engaging residents and visitors in protecting the natural resources of the Yampa Valley.

YVSC works with event organizers and vendors on environmentally preferred purchasing, and the organization's Zero Hero volunteers help event attendees sort their waste to ensure everything that can be recycled ends up in the right bin.

YVSC is seeking sponsors for the 2017 Sustainable Events program starting at the $500 level. The deadline for sponsorship commitments is June 1. A sponsorship packet and information about the program is available at goo.gl/VMjfy4.
