Steamboat briefs: Opening reception set for Crawford art exhibit

A public opening reception for Tread of Pioneers Museum's newest exhibit, "Art of the Crawfords, will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday during Art Walk. Food and beverages will be available. The majority of the Crawford family artwork in the museum collection and new exhibit focuses on the watercolors of local wildflowers painted by Lulie Crawford Pritchett. There are also several oil paintings and other media by Lulie, and a number of pieces created by other members of the Crawford family. The artwork provides a view of the creative and everyday life of this pioneer family and unveils the rich legacy established by the founders of Steamboat Springs.
The exhibit is located in the newly dedicated James L. Crawford and Anna Fang community room at the Tread of Pioneers Museum.
County taps NEO Fiber for broadband planning
Routt County has selected the consulting firm NEO Fiber to provide broadband planning services on behalf of a consortium of public and nonprofit community partners. A public meeting that will provide an overview of the planning process will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Centennial Hall, 137 10th St. Community members are invited to attend and provide input on needs and concerns regarding broadband service availability within the county. City, other groups to host Yampa River clean-up
The city of Steamboat Springs, in partnership with the Colorado Water Trust, CAN'd Aid Foundation, Colorado Watershed Assembly, Friends of the Yampa and Backdoor Sports, is proud to host a Yampa River Clean-Up and Party from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday.

Volunteers are asked to meet at Little Toots Park, at 12th and Yampa streets, at 2 p.m. to receive clean-up materials and to be assigned to various sections of the Yampa River and its tributaries. At 5 p.m., volunteers will return to Little Toots Park to celebrate with beer, donated by the CAN'd Aid Foundation, pizza and live music.
Volunteers are asked to bring their own river shoes, waders and gloves. Trash bags and pick-up sticks will be provided.
Arts Council in search of volunteers for festival
The Steamboat Springs Arts Council is seeking volunteers for the All Arts Festival, which will take place Monday through to Aug. 16. There are opportunities to serve as gallery sitters, beer tent attendants, Youth Art camp assistants and more. Call 970-879-9008 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. Golf event will benefit Prostate Cancer Foundation
The 11th annual Prostate Cancer Golf Fundraiser will be held Wednesday at the Steamboat Golf Club in conjunction with the men's club. There will be a noon 18-hole shotgun start or a 5:30 p.m. nine-hole shotgun start. All men golfers are welcome. Non-members will pay $35 for 18 holes or $25 for nine holes.
All proceeds will be donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

Residents, visitors given chance to win tickets to stage production
Shirley Valentine, a lively, friendly British woman, will be touring Lincoln Avenue this First Friday, sparking conversation and enjoying the town.
The first person to recognize her will receive two tickets to the new production of "Shirley Valentine," starring Nina Rogers and directed by Michael Staley, being staged at the Depot Art Center Aug. 28 and 29.
The one-woman show follows a woman through the trip of a lifetime, leaving her life of making chips and egg for tea each evening and flying off to Greece to re-discover her most fabulous self.
Shirley may also be attending the Yampa Fine Art Stroll on Aug. 17 with another two tickets will be up for grabs.
Tickets are $15 for the general public, $10 for Steamboat Springs Arts Council members and $8 for students and seniors. They can be purchased at All That, the Depot Art Center and online at steamboatarts.org.
