Steamboat briefs: New series of Tobacco Free classes to start next month

A new series of Tobacco Free Program classes will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Jan. 6 and continuing through Feb. 10 at the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association in Steamboat Springs, 940 Central Park Drive, Suite 101. The program, which is free, provides peer support and help overcoming nicotine addiction and quitting smoking or using smokeless tobacco. It is recommended participants attend all six classes, but drop-ins also are welcome. To sign up or speak to a tobacco cessation counselor, call 970-871-7338.

Parks and Wildlife accepts resident host applications

Colorado Parks and Wildlife is now accepting resident host applications for a variety of locations for the 2015 season.

Resident or campground hosts are volunteers who spend part of their year camping for free in exchange for 20 to 30 hours of service each week. Duties may include greeting campers, offering check-in assistance, performing maintenance, promoting educational programs, leading hatchery walking tours and providing visitor center coverage.

Locations with sites available for 2015 resident/campground hosts include: Arkansas Headwaters, Barr Lake, Boyd Lake, Castlewood Canyon, Chatfield, Cherry Creek, Crawford, Dan Noble SWA, Eleven Mile, Reservoir, Golden Gate Canyon, Highline Lake, Jackson Lake, James M. Robb, John Martin, Lathrop/San Luis, Lake Pueblo State Park and Hatchery, Lory, Mancos, Mueller, Navajo, North Sterling, Paonia, Pearl Lake, Ridgway, Rifle Complex, Rifle Falls Hatchery, San Luis, Stagecoach, State Forest, Steamboat/Pearl Lake, Sweitzer, Sylvan Lake, Trinidad Lake, Vega and Yampa River.
