Steamboat briefs: ‘Motionpoems’ to screen at 6:30 p.m. Monday at library

— In conjunction with the 20th anniversary of National Poetry Month in April, Bud Werner Memorial Library will present a community screening of “Motionpoems,” an interdisciplinary art experiment in which contemporary poetry meets film, at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Library Hall. “Motionpoems” consists of a selection of innovative short films that include poems by award-winning and lesser-known poets adapted by filmmakers from coast to coast.

Minneapolis-based Motionpoems was founded in 2008 by filmmaker Angella Kassube and poet Todd Boss. It is a nonprofit arts organization with a mission to produce short film adaptations of great contemporary poems and expand poetry’s audience. Film artists work from completed poems and are given free rein. Visit steamboatlibrary.org/events for more information.

Free energy assessments in Routt, Moffat counties

Homeowners in Routt and Moffat counties are encouraged to sign up for a free home energy assessment to learn how best to improve the energy efficiency of their home. The energy audits are free for homeowners who have Yampa Valley Electric Association service for electricity and have Atmos Energy for the primary source of home heating.

This service has a value of as many as $350 and is available by signing up via the Energy Smart Colorado website at energysmartcolorado.com and clicking on the ‘For My Home’ link.

Atmos Energy heat customers can receive a free quick-fix kit valued at $50 for gas saving measures installed on-site by the energy auditor such as a hot water heater blanket or programmable thermostat. Customers who have only YVEA service and no Atmos natural gas service can receive the home energy audit for half price, or $150.

The residential assessment includes an extensive walk-through and review of a home, blower-door test and infrared imaging to show areas of air leakage. A comprehensive report is sent to the customer afterward with a list of recommendations.

Homes larger than 3,000 square feet will have an additional charge of 5 cents per square foot, and home assessments in outlying areas may incur a small travel fee.

Contact the Yampa Valley Sustainability Council at 970-871-9299, ext. 104, or suzie@yvsc.org for more information.

New state driver’s license design premieres April 6

The Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles will start a statewide two-week rollout of the newly designed driver’s licenses, instruction permits and identification cards beginning April 6.

Offices will be closed one day before issuing the new design to allow for the installation of new equipment and for training.

Colorado residents can continue to use their current valid driver’s licenses, instruction permits and identification cards through their expiration date. The current design will continue to be issued at offices until they have converted to the new equipment and software associated with the new design.

The DMV encourages customers to attempt to renew their driver’s licenses or identification cards online at colorado.gov/vroom. The new design will be available through online renewal beginning in mid-April.

Customers obtaining a newly designed card in an office will receive an updated temporary paper document that will contain a removable section with an image that resembles the card. The temporary document will be valid for 30 days to allow for the physical card to be produced and mailed.

The new design features a more colorful background showcasing Mount Sneffels located between Ouray and Telluride. The State Capital is pictured on the reverse. The card also includes laser engraving of the customer’s information and primary photograph in grayscale to enhance the security and safety of the document.
