Steamboat briefs: Hayden Library to close for Columbus Day

The Hayden Public Library will be closed Monday, Oct. 10 in observance of Columbus Day. The library will reopen Tuesday.

Library announces One Book Steamboat winners

Each fall, the Bud Werner Memorial Library presents One Book Steamboat, a community read for Steamboat Springs. In 2016, we are reading "Angle of Repose," the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Wallace Stegner, honoring the Pulitzer centennial and "the dean of Western writers."

During last week's One Book Steamboat trivia contest surrounding Stegner and "Angle of Repose," the following people answered a question correctly to win a copy of the novel: Dona Steele, Brian Peterson, Judy Kline, Jenna Hunt, Louise Wu, Dot Alber and Nancie McCormish.

The answer to the final question, published Friday, Wallace Stegner left a legacy as writer, professor and environmentalist who once moved Edward Abbey to pronounce him "the only living American writer worthy of the Nobel."
