Singers wanted for Handel’s “Messiah”

Singers are wanted for holiday performances of Handel’s “Messiah,” to be performed Dec. 22 and 23 at Steamboat Christian Center. Rehearsals are from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the United Methodist Church, beginning Oct. 30.

The concerts will feature the Steamboat Springs Orchestra and professional soloists, plus a chorus of more than 100 members from the community. Performances are sponsored by the orchestra, Emerald City Opera, Steamboat Springs Arts Council, Rocky Mountain Community College and the Community Chorus. Call Marie Carmichael at 871-4883.

Yampa Valley Wrestling Club hits the mat

Yampa Valley Wrestling Club of Routt County invites all youth in kindergarten through eighth grade to try the sport of wrestling. The season is through Dec. 4. Practices are from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The cost is $75. Call Kenda at (970) 620-1811.

Quit kits for smokers, chewers available at VNA

Tobacco-free quit kits for smokers and chewers are available at the Visiting Nurse Association offices at 940 Central Park Drive, Suite 101 in Steamboat Springs, and 745 Russell St. in Craig. The kits promote the Colorado QuitLine and free support from a trained coach who guides and supports individuals through the quitting process. Research shows you are seven times more likely to end your tobacco habit with the QUITLINE than if you are trying to quit on your own. Four weeks of free nicotine patches are available, a $100 value. Transportation to medical centers available for vets

Transportation to the Grand Junction and Denver VA medical centers is available for veterans who are unable to drive and who have an appointment Monday through Friday at either hospital. This service is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Call the Veterans Affairs Officer of Routt County at 879-5489 or e-mail mcondie@co.routt.co.us to arrange transportation.

Veterans are encouraged to take advantage of the medical services available to them through the VA. Entering the VA medical system requires a copy of your DD 214 and about 20 minutes to fill out a form with the VA officer. The Routt County office is in the Workforce Center in the Sundance at Fish Creek shopping center. The office is open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.
