Fly fishing group seeks volunteers for work day
The Yampa Valley Fly Fishers group is seeking volunteers to help with riverbank revegetation work, representing the culmination of Phase 2 of a major project on the Yampa River at the Chuck Lewis State Wildlife Area. The work, which begins at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, entails seeding, planting dormant shrubbery stubs and trimming willows.
Already, many boulders have been strategically placed in the river to create healthier channels and habitat for trout.
Coffee will be provided in the mornings, as well as lunch both days. Volunteers who know they can take part can help with planning for lunch by e-mailing confirmation to firstname.lastname@example.org.
To get to the site 5 minutes south of Steamboat Springs, drive south on U.S. Highway 40 to a right turn onto Colorado Highway 131. Continue west for about one-quarter mile, then veer right onto Routt County Road 14F. Cross the railroad tracks and river. Turn left through the gate just past the river, and follow the dirt track to the gathering area. For additional information, call 846-2880 or 879-3440.
