Sex assault suspect released on $10,000 bail

An Oregon man suspected of sexually assaulting a California boy in Steamboat Springs in December 2006 has been extradited to Colorado to face the charges.

The man allegedly sexually assaulted a 13-year-old boy in a vehicle while driving from Denver to Steamboat Springs, and repeatedly at a Steamboat home during a holiday visit, according to sworn police affidavits.

The man, 52, has been charged with sexual assault on a child by someone in a position of trust with a pattern of sexual abuse, a Class 3 felony punishable by up to 12 years in jail and $750,000 in fines.

The man was booked into Routt County Jail on Tuesday, and released on $10,000 bail.

After an investigation by the Steamboat Springs Police Department, a warrant was issued for the man’s arrest Jan. 23. He was arrested in his home state Jan. 31 and released from Portland’s Multnomah County Jail the same day on $50,000 bond.

The man is due to appear in Routt County Court at 2 p.m. March 12.
