Steamboat Briefs: Chamber seeks volunteers for upcoming events

Grant-seeking workshop is offered for free Friday

The Yampa Valley Community Foundation hosts a workshop led by Keif Schladweiler, coordinator of cooperating collections for the Foundation Center, from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Friday in Library Hall at Bud Werner Memorial Library. The free workshop includes grant-seeking best practices with topics including grantseeking basics with foundation directory online, guide to online grantseeker resources and an introduction to the Philanthropy In/Sight program. Barbecue benefiting North Routt school is July 16

A North Routt Community Charter School barbecue and fundraiser is from 3 to 8 p.m. July 16 at the Iacovetto Ranch at Pearl Lake. The cost is $25 for adults and $5 for children ages 5 to 13. Children younger than 5 are free. The family maximum price is $60. Food, drink, games, music and a silent auction will be part of the event. All proceeds benefit the North Routt Community Charter School. Tickets are available at the gate or advance at the Clark Store.



Internet hunter education course is set for July 23

The Colorado Division of Wildlife will hold an Internet hunter education completion course for those ages 13 and older from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 23 in Hayden. Pre-registration is required, and the Internet portion of the class must be finished before July 23. For more information, call 970-871-2855.

Catharine Koroulis earns cattle group’s scholarship

The Colorado Independent CattleGrowers Association awarded the 2011 Joel Franz Memorial Internship to Catharine Koroulis from Steamboat Springs. Koroulis recently finished her freshman year at Casper College in Casper, Wyo. She is majoring in agriculture business and marketing. Koroulis plans to attend law school and receive a Juris Doctorate degree. She stated in a news release that “Thereafter, I want to focus on promoting the livestock industry and protecting small producers in the court of law.” Koroulis is the daughter of Kevin and Leellen Koroulis.



Used book fundraiser to benefit mentoring program

The Steamboat Springs Center for Visual Arts will host a used book fundraiser at 9 a.m. July 9 and 10 in Library Hall at Bud Werner Memorial Library. Most books will cost $1 to $3, and the sale benefits the CVA Artist Mentoring Program. For more information, call 970-846-5970.  

Ariel Tredway on dean’s list at Chicago school

Ariel Tredway, of Steamboat Springs, has been named to the dean’s list at Columbia College Chicago for the Spring 2011 semester. Tredway is a marketing and communications major. Students who are named to the Dean’s List must have taken at least 12 credit hours and have a 3.75 GPA or higher.

Registration open for July skating, hockey lessons

Registration is open for July Learn To Skate and Initiation to Hockey lessons at the Howelsen Ice Arena. Lessons are July 11 through 14. Learn To Skate is from 10:30 to 11 a.m. and costs $37. Skate rentals and free skate afterward are included. Initiation to Hockey is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and costs $74. For more information, call Courtney Gill at 970-879-4300, ext. 340.

Howelsen Hill fundraising effort seeks more support

The Howelsen Hill Centennial Campaign, which is raising money for improvements at Howelsen Hill, is still seeking community donations to help leverage foundation support. Since July, the campaign has raised more than $268,000 in private donations and pledges and more than $937,000 in grants, according to a news release.

Donations to the Howelsen Hill Centennial Campaign can be made in the following ways:

Checks can be made out to the City of Steamboat Springs, or the YVCF – Howelsen Ski Hill and sent to: Howelsen Hill Centennial Campaign, P.O. Box 775088, Steamboat Springs, CO 80477; or donate by credit card online at http://www.yvcf.org/donate (select Howelsen Capital Improvements – Ski Area).

The Howelsen Hill Centennial Campaign hopes to accomplish projects including buying and installing new lighting, snowmaking equipment, a mini magic carpet, and a new summer ski jump at Howelsen Hill. Donors can specify which project they want their money to go to.
