Steamboat Briefs: Bike to Work breakfast is Wednesday on courthouse lawn

The Bike to Work Breakfast, culminating Bike to Work Month in June, is from 7 to 9 a.m. Wednesday on the Routt County Courthouse lawn.

The free event for bicycle commuters is organized by Routt County Riders and will include grab-and-go breakfast items that have been donated by area restaurants and other businesses.

“It looks like Wednesday will be a perfect bike commuting day,” Routt Country Riders board President Janet Hruby said. “Commuting by bicycle saves money, improves your health, reduces traffic congestion, helps the environment and builds community camaraderie. If you don’t bike commute on a regular basis, give it a try on Wednesday.”

Scholarship Day reshuffled at Steamboat Bike Park

Sponsorship Day has been rescheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. July 3 at the Steamboat Bike Park. The fundraiser, which benefits the Routt County Riders trail maintenance fund, previously was scheduled for June 13, but was canceled because of high winds.

Sponsorship Day costs $15 for bike park access, and is similar to Scholarship Day in that the ski area donates 100 percent of proceeds and season passes are not accepted. The ski area also will offer half-off bike rentals, with $15 from each rental benefiting Routt County Riders.

The ski area anticipates the following trails will be open: Rustlers Ridge, E-Z Rider, Wrangler Gulch, Buckin’ Bronc, Zig Zag, Creekside, Valley View, a portion of Raw Hide and Tenderfoot, according to a news release.
