Steamboat briefs: Bank of San Juans hosts food drive through April







Oak Creek's Bank of the San Juans is hosting a food drive for LiftUp's South Routt Food Bank through the month of April. Collection boxes for non-perishable food and personal items are located at Bank of the San Juans, 319 E Main St., Oak Creek, Select Super Market, 103 W. Main St. Oak Creek, and Montgomery's General Merchandise, 24 Main St., Yampa.

North Routt set to host Easter egg hunt, breakfast

The North Routt Easter Egg Hunt and Breakfast is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 26, at Vista Verde Ranch in Clark.

The event will include a pancake breakfast at 10 a.m., followed by the egg hunt at 11.

Attendees are invited to bring their skis and use trails at Vista Verde following the egg hunt, snow permitting.

The ranch is located on Seedhouse Road or Routt County Road 64, five mile from the Clark Store.

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children or $35 for a family. All proceeds benefit the North Routt Preschool.

LiftUp extends food bank hours Wednesdays in March

The LiftUp Food Bank is will be extending its hours during the month of March. On Wednesdays only, the food bank will be open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. rather than 1 to 5 p.m. for the "March Midweek Stretch."  If there is enough demand, the hours will continue beyond March.

Rx Task Force to host final session in painkiller series

The Rx Task Force, a collaboration of community organizations, will host the final installment in a four-part, lunch-and-learn community education series about the prevalence and dangers of heroin and pain killer use in Northwest Colorado from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 23 at Bud Werner Memorial Library's Library Hall. Sailors Booster Club plans annual spring plant fundraiser

The Booster Club and Steamboat Springs High School teams are selling potted annuals and flats of annuals for their annual spring fundraiser.

Order 12-inch diameter hanging baskets with a choice of either mixed annuals or geraniums or 12-inch diameter patio pots of mixed annuals.

Also available this year are five-inch succulent planters to bring indoors after the summer ends.

These healthy and beautiful plants will be blooming and ready for pick-up May 26.

Free Parkinson's exercise class offered twice weekly

Parkinson's exercise classes are held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 9 a.m. Fridays at the United Methodist Church of Steamboat Springs, Eighth and Oak streets. The class consists of exercises developed by neuroscientist Becky Farley of pwr4life.org, and Gary Sobol, who has Parkinson's and is the founder of GZ Sobol's Parkinson's Network at parkinsonsnetwork.org, to specifically address Parkinson's symptoms, including dexterity, rigidity, balance, bradykinesia and voice softness.

Class participants warm their muscles, focus on big, powerful movements and loud voices and work together as a group to encourage one another, share tips and revel in good humor.
