Steamboat Briefs: Annual Merry MainStreet celebration set for Saturday

The seventh annual Merry MainStreet celebration will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday on Lincoln Avenue between Fifth and 11th streets.

Festivities will start with the lighted Santa parade, beginning at Sixth Street and rolling on to 10th Street. Lighted parade vehicles and groups are still being accepted.

Santa will be riding on Phoenix, the new fire-breathing dragon. Following the parade, he will be available to visit with children in the Santa house on the Routt County Courthouse lawn. Children also may bring letters to deposit in the Santa mailbox outside of the house.

In addition to the parade, there are four gingerbread creations scattered throughout downtown as well as decorated Christmas store windows.

The Elf on the Shelf will be hiding in one of the store windows, just waiting to be discovered.

Anyone who finds the elf is eligible to register inside the store to win $100 in Downtown Dollars.
