Steamboat briefs: 8th annual Hayden Holiday Tree Festival is Sunday

Hayden's eighth annual Holiday Tree Festival will be held Sunday at the Routt County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall. Doors will open at 1 p.m. for the viewing of decorated wreaths, trees and centerpieces, and the auction will begin at 1:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Friends of the Christmas Tree Festival, the event serves as a main fundraiser for many community organizations, including Hayden Girl Scout troops, Routt County Cattlewomen, Hayden High School Theatre Club, Love INC. and the Ranch House 4-H Club with 100 percent of the auction proceeds benefiting local youth and service organizations. Sculptor Esteban Blanco to speak at Depot Art Center
The Depot Art Center will host a art talk with Esteban Blanco, a Cuban-born sculptor who will reflect on the journey from illusion to reality and back using the subjects of toys and cities. The talk will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Refreshments will be provided.
Then from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday Blanco will lead a figurine workshop. He will teach about how to artfully modify and/or repair vintage figurines and ceramics. No experience is necessary, and all materials and tools will be provided.
The class will be limited to 15 artists and will cost $50, though Steamboat Springs Arts Council members will receive $15 off.
