City reminds participants of basic bike, trail etiquette
As temperatures rise, local trails are beginning to dry out, and several lower elevation trails, such as lower Spring Creek, are now open. The city of Steamboat Springs Parks and Community Services Department reminds all trail users of some basic trail etiquette.
■ Use authorized trails only.
■ Stay on the existing single track of the trails. Walking on the sides of muddy trails creates trail widening, braiding and other negative impacts.
■ Stay off wet and muddy trails to minimize damage. If mud is sticking to your shoes, tires or animals, it is too muddy.
■ Educate yourself and your friends. Friends don't let friends use muddy trails.
Steamboat Springs has an amazing trail system, but limited resources for trail maintenance. These limited resources are stretched even thinner when they are needed to address the negative impacts of users not following trail etiquette.
Visit steamboatspring.net, for up-to-date trail closures, and help prevent resource damage by respecting closures that remain in effect.
