A. 1986, a motorcycle trip through Steamboat on the way to Canada.

A. Agreeing to present at a national conference.

Q. Describe your morning routine.

A. Wake up, shower, play with children, John and Sarah, load them in the car, kiss my wife, go to work.

Q. Have you ever had a book change your life? What was it and why?

A. “Think and Grow Rich,” by Napoleon Hill. It made me believe that if I can see it, I can achieve it. Now, if I could just implement everything I read, I will be on my way.

Q. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

A. Never underestimate the power of the human spirit.

Q. When you meet someone new, what are the first three things you tell them about yourself?

A. I have an amazing family, I love my work and probably something about the latest Routt County Search and Rescue mission.

Q. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A. A Navy fighter pilot.

Q. Next big goal:

A. Spending more time with my family and friends this year than last.

Q. If you could invite any four people over for dinner, who would they be and what would you talk about?

A. My wife, Jane, Josh Groban, George Bush Sr. and Sean Connery. I invited Josh so my wife would have someone fun to talk to while Mr. Bush, Mr. Connery and I sit around discussing how to repair our country, society and the world.

Q. In the Meatloaf song, “I’ll do anything for love, but I won’t do that.” What is “that”?

A. I was a farm kid from Iowa. I listened to Lynyrd Skynyrd and other southern rock bands growing up. I can’t imagine listening to Meatloaf just so I can answer this question.

Q. For the sake of this question, you are going to be executed tomorrow. What do you ask for your last meal?

A. I’m certain that I wouldn’t be very hungry. But if I had to choose something and because it’s winter I’d probably say tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. And don’t forget the Pepsi One.
