Soroco girls take third at district tournament

Chloe Veilleux looks to put in a layup against West Grand in the second quarter of a district playoff game Wednesday night in Oak Creek.

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — The Soroco girls basketball team topped off their district tournament run with a win, and they are now focused on regionals.
After coming off a 40-50 loss at De Beque High School on Friday, the Rams faced Vail Christian Valor on Saturday to play for third or fourth place.
Soroco took third in the tournament with the 42-40 win.
"Defensively, I thought we played really well," coach David Bruner said.
Courtney Bruner scored 16 points, and Chloe Veilleux had eight.
"It was pretty close all the way through," David Bruner said.
The Rams now head to the 32-team regional tournament where they are seeded 14.
They will travel five hours to play No. 19 Burlington on Friday in Limon.
The game time has not yet been announced.
Bruner said he is going to spend time finding out what he can about the Burlington team, so the Rams are prepared.
"We always have stuff to work on," Bruner said. "We'll just try to tune up some things. The main thing is just try to get healthier. It's that time of year. We've got some injuries."
