Shawn Reilly Mills: Let’s switch homes
July 15, 2007
Steamboat Springs — Your view (Our View, July 11 Steamboat Today) praising the addition of Frontier flights to the Yampa Valley Regional Airport gave me a great idea. You seem enamored of the airport and the growing number of flights in and out, so I would like to propose you and I switch homes for the next year.
By living here, on Vista Verde Road, you would be treated to the pleasure of an up close and personal experience. The runway seemingly coincides exactly with our road, allowing for incoming flights to actually line up by following it in. During the ski season, there is a plane overhead every 45 seconds – and so close you can practically read the name of the tire brands on the deployed landing gear. Besides this awesome visual, you get the acoustic resonance of the jet engines vibrating through the entire house – and fabulous enhancement if you happen to have a china cabinet. Previously, the flights ended at about 10:30 p.m., but with new ones being added, you have the potential to enjoy their arrival on into the night. If that isn’t enough to tempt you, don’t forget about the fumes to which you and your family will be exposed.
Don’t worry about Hayden accidentally claiming any of the financial benefits of the increased air traffic – the airport is actually on county land even though tickets say HDN and Steamboat gets the biggest chunk of any revenue.
I look forward to hearing from you, we can move at the end of August.
