Scotty Stoughton: Letter to Steamboat Springs from WinterWonderGrass founder

I would like to take a minute to express our sincere gratitude to the entire community of Steamboat Springs for your overwhelming support of WinterWonderGrass. Our team has been working diligently to deliver an experience to you and our guests that is truly unique, safe, family-friendly, environmentally conscious and a heck of a lot of fun. Since the moments we closed the gates on 2017, we have been planning to raise the bar across the spectrum of WWG experiences.

The commitment and backing we have received from Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp., the city of Steamboat Springs, the Steamboat Chamber and Resort Association, local nonprofit partners and all walks of the local community continue to humble us. It is you that we appreciate and work so hard for as you have trusted us and opened your doors Western style. We now fully understand what makes the community of Steamboat Springs so tight-knit and majestic beyond the natural beauty.

For WWG 2018, we are beyond thrilled to showcase over 26 bluegrass and roots artists from around the country. This year, we are honored to have added Yonder Mountain String Band and Greensky Bluegrass to the talent-laden lineup of acts that are currently dominating the national tour scene. They will join the likes of Leftover Salmon, Elephant Revival, Fruition, Lil' Smokies and so many more.

WinterWonderGrass prides itself on our commitment to bringing communities together. We have realized that a huge part of our magic is to book bands for multiple days so that they can truly immerse themselves in their surroundings. We know that they will be touched by the hospitality of Steamboat, invigorated on the slopes and inspired by the warmth of your amazing community, these interactions and moments are the catalysts to spontaneous jams that unfold throughout the weekend.

For 2018, we have added more food vendors, partnered with Lyft to increase drivers and safe ride options, added more late-night venues, added the family-friendly public pick at The Steamboat Grand from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and increased security and WWG staff to keep everyone safer and the lines moving quickly.

Our team takes great pride in leaving our communities cleaner than we found them and holding our attendees responsible for contributing to the positive small-town charm of our host communities: Steamboat Springs and Squaw Valley, California.

We understand that although we have been planning for months, there may be a few inconveniences to you, and we apologize in advance. With attendees coming from over 40 states, some making their first visit to Steamboat, we invite you to join us in welcoming them to WinterWonderGrass.

We hope to see you at the free community kick-off party at Gondola Square on Thursday, on the mountain for music at Rendezvous Deck and onsite at WinterWonderGrass.

On behalf of the entire WWG team and artists, I say “thank you,” and let's have an amazingly safe and positive WinterWonderGrass experience. We are excited to be here for a very long time.
