Sarah Jane Hallman (1937 – 2005)

Longtime Steamboat Springs resident Sarah Jane Hallman passed away suddenly Oct. 9, 2005, from heart failure.

Jane was born March 21, 1937, in Freeland, near Saginaw, Mich. She received her bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and a master’s of science degree from the University of Wisconsin Whitewater.

We will all miss Grandma Jane. Grandma Jane was well-known at the Steamboat Ski Corp. Kids Vacation Center and Kids Adventure Camp. She also helped many local families with day care and babysitting.

Jane was a long-time member of Concordia Lutheran church. She served the church in several roles for many years and had a wide network of friends.

Jane was a loving and enthusiastic grandmother and is survived by seven children and stepchildren and 13 grandchildren. Her family lives in Colorado, Idaho, California, Texas and South Carolina.

In 1974, Jane and her family moved from Michigan to Steamboat Springs, where the family lived for several years on Elk River Road. Although most of the family moved to other parts of the country, and Jane later moved to the mountain, Jane fell in love with the Yampa Valley and vowed to remain forever in Steamboat. We are sad she is no longer with us, and we will miss her, but we are happy that she will live on forever in our hearts and in the wind, mountains and rivers of this beautiful valley.
