Sailors’ homecoming theme: Vegas Magic

Zach Fridell

— Steamboat Springs High School will have a bit of Las Vegas infused into its halls next week as students begin homecoming celebrations for “Las Vegas Magic.”

The days of the week will be themed based on famous Las Vegas hotels, from Treasure Island to Circus Circus.

Despite the glittering lights, Assistant Principal Marty Lamansky said homecoming always retains the character of Steamboat.

“It’s got the small-town feel, and it’s one of the things that makes us a unique community,” he said. “It’s also a good thing, because it shows our support of the students.”

The week also includes two all-school assemblies, including time for a teacher skit Friday. A Steamboat tradition, teachers will take the opportunity to perform in front of their students.

“It’s a chance for students to see their teachers make semi-fools out of themselves,” Lamansky said.

Sports also will dominate the week, with a home football game Friday evening and other events throughout the week, including home soccer and volleyball games.

Homecoming week will finish with a dance Oct. 11 in the high school gym.
