Sailors football falls at Summit
September 1, 2017
The Steamboat Springs High School football team was limited on offense Friday and unable to hang on the scoreboard with Summit.
The Sailors lost on the road against the Tigers 24-3.
"Offensively, we threw the ball fairly well. We had some opportunities," coach Shawn Baumgartner said. "We couldn't really capitalize on that once we got down the field a little further."
He said the team was sharper, defensively, but gave up one touchdown on a short field to open the game, then another, late in the fourth quarter on a long pass.
"We fought hard. We flew around and had a lot of stops," he said.
The loss drops Steamboat to 0-2 on the season. Summit improves to 1-1.

The Sailors are now off for the next two weeks before returning to action Sept. 15 with a trip to play at Glenwood Springs.
That time off is an opportunity for the team, Baumgartner said.
"We really want to focus on teaching the fundamentals and get back to the basics," he said. "We won't be worried about game planning, so we can really get to the basics."
