Ron Arenman: Pass increases for seniors ‘unconscionable’

Dear Editor,

I just wanted to add to the others that have commented on the Ikon Pass.

I'm a senior citizen and have supported the mountain for well over a decade. My pass has gone up 37 percent over the last two years, and now, they are asking for another 30 percent, which I believe to be unconscionable.

My brother, who lives at Stratton Mountain in Vermont, just got his "Ikon pass" for $399 with limited blackout dates and the ability to travel. Why are we getting the "updated Steamboat Pass" and can only ski for five days at my home mountain?

The Epic Pass is cheaper and allows for the purchaser to pay over time if they so choose and gives them an approximately $400 rate for their home mountain.

I am not going to spend $1,800 for my wife and I to ski here this year to support a company that does not support its loyal local patrons.
